How to lucid dream in 5 minutes?

You can lucid dream under 5 minutes during a Wake Back To Bed (WBTB), using a Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming (WILD) technique with intention. It is not possible to lucid dream under 5 minutes before bed and only possible within a WBTB.

What is a Wake Back To Bed?

A WBTB is awakening during the night, this can be done with an alarm or with other techniques, such as intention or mantra’s. A WBTB is a super easy technique that increases the chance to become lucid and gives you more recall of the dreams!

You can read a long article about Wake Back To Bed (WBTB) here: How to perform WBTB the right way.

Since you are probably a beginner lucid dreamer, it is better to start with an alarm. Before you go to sleep you set your alarm 4 to 5 hours later. This increases the chance for you to wake up in REM.

Sleeping Cycle
This is not 100% accurate, a REM state happens every 90 to 120 min.

REM is Rapid-Eye Movement, in this state you are having vivid dreams, and it is a lot easier to become lucid with a Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming (WILD) technique.

When you have done this step, you are already 50% done!

In 5 minutes you are lucid!

You woke up from your alarm, and you are probably in the REM stage of sleep. The best thing to do is wait for 5 minutes before you start the technique. In these 5 minutes trying to think about lucid dreaming and what you want to do in this lucid dream.

After those 5 minutes, you have to perform a WILD technique. WILD basically means that you do a technique that makes you lucid directly after you fall asleep. The most effective WILD technique would be Finger Induced Lucid Dreaming (FILD).

I will also go over an alternative method, you can use instead.

5 steps to becoming lucid in 5 minutes with FILD

I will explain in 5 steps you perform FILD and the best way to do so.

1. Sleeping position

The most important part is the sleeping position. Every guide on the internet would tell you to lay on your back, but this actually not the correct way. The best way to position is by laying down in your favorite sleeping position.

2. Relax

The next thing you should do is that you should be trying to relax. You can do this by focusing on your breathing. Just breathe in and out until you feel relaxed.

Try not to fall asleep yet!

3. Beginning of FILD

Try to position one hand or two hands on your bed where you can put your fingers like you are playing the piano. This is important for the next step!

4. Doing FILD

Now you have to perform FILD. Focus on your hands and visualize yourself playing the piano. Try to put pressure on your fingers, but don’t actually move your fingers. This can take up to 5 minutes to become lucid.

You can fail this step, and the best thing to do is to start over from step 1. You will notice that nothing is happening and that everything was exactly the same as before you started the steps.

5. Getting lucid

The moment you successfully did step 4, you will feel your hands going through your bed, and you probably see through your eyelids light or even images. Try to not interact with this, and keep focusing on the fingers.

You will slowly start hearing voices, and you are probably going to see a dream appearing, if this happens the best thing to do is to question reality. For example, “Am I dreaming?” This will give you more awareness of the dream state.

Now the only thing left is to complete your lucid dreaming goal.

5 steps to becoming lucid in 5 minutes with VILD

Sometimes FILD won’t work, and there is an alternative method that is almost the same as FILD. This is called Visually Induced Lucid Dreaming (VILD). VILD is basically FILD without using your fingers.

1. Sleeping position

The sleeping position should be the same as with FILD, this is in your favorite sleeping position where you can fall asleep quickly.

2. Relax

It is important to relax, try to focus on your breathing until you are relaxed.

3. Warm-up VILD

It is important to warm up before you start the technique. Visualize something important to you, and try to hold it for 10 seconds, and redo this a couple of times until you feel convinced that you will succeed in the next step.

4. Doing VILD

Now you practiced VILD a couple of times, it is now time to lucid dream in 5 minutes. Start visualizing a dream you want to be part of it. If your goal is flying, visualize a dream scene where you are flying. Use all senses you can use with visualization, such as the wind passing by you, the smell of the air, feeling of the wind going over your body, the sound of the birds, etc.

If you fail this step, start over from step 2.

5. Getting lucid

Now you are slowly becoming lucid, you will go through a state where you may feel the senses you are visualizing, but don’t panic and don’t interact with the state. The moment you are interacting with the state, you probably fail the attempt. Wait until you see the dream and when you visualize checking your hands. Do a reality check or question reality.

What if I fail these 5 minutes lucid dreaming techniques?

The moment you fail the technique, you can retry it by starting over from step 1 of the method. If this is not working for you, you can decide to set the alarm 30 minutes later and wake up again and retry with the method. Beginners who have no experience with lucid dreaming will have a bigger chance of succeeding because they don’t know what to expect and have often more motivation and intention that intermediate lucid dreamers.

What is the success rate of this 5-minute technique?

The success rate is pretty low, this is because it takes time and dedication before you are able to become a real lucid dreamer. This is just a technique for people who don’t want to go this full journey and want a fast experience on what lucid dreaming is and how to execute it. As I said before, beginners have a bigger success rate than intermediate lucid dreamers.

The reason why I still decide to post this technique is that a lot of new lucid dreamers search up “how to lucid dream in 5 minutes” and I had to cover this subject for them.
